Skinning Senior Skier Arrested in Jackson Hole

Teton Village, WY – Teton County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 78-year-old man skinning up the slopes of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Feb. 5 to watch his granddaughter race.nThe Jackson Hole News & Guide reports that Roland Fleck, a retired doctor from Jackson, spent seven hours in jail following the incident in which he was handcuffed, transported by ski patrol toboggan to the base and charged with trespass, unsafe skiing, interference and theft of services. Resort president Jerry Blann indicated to the newspaper that ski patrollers spent 3.5 hours trying to turn Fleck around before the arrest.

Resort officials and the Teton County Sheriff both confirm that they have declined to press charges against Fleck, one of the earliest investors in the ski resort. In 1965, Fleck purchased from resort founder Paul McCollister the lot upon which the Hotel Terra now sits in Teton Village. McCollister used the money obtained from the sale of building lots to fund construction of the resort’s first aerial tramway.
