Lost Snowboarders Burn Tree to Aid Rescue Effort

Boise, ID – Three snowboarders who became lost while riding at Bogus Basin ski area above Boise set fire to a tree to direct rescuers to their location.nThe three men, who were unidentified, were located unharmed about 12:40 a.m. Monday morning.

The group phoned 911 around 5 p.m. Sunday evening to report their predicament and indicate that they were setting up camp for the night, but didn’t remain on the line as their cell phone’s battery was nearly dead. Bogus Basin ski patrol called off their search efforts around 8 p.m., but an hour later reports came in of a tree on fire.

Rescuers from Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue Unit found the trio and extinguished the blaze.
