Calgary Artists Work on a Creative Canvas

Calgary (AB), Canada – Over the past severl weeks Calgary artists have been crafting funky works-of-art on a unique canvas: snowboard boots.nThe freshly redesigned snowboard boots have been on display at The Core Downtown and at the Calgary World Cup stop’s sponsor hotel, the Delta Bow Valley, as well as at Calgary Olympic Park. Last Saturday, half of the boots were auctioned off in a silent auction to raise money for Canada~Snowboard’s Para-Snowboard Team.

This month, Canada~Snowboard will announce when the other half of the boots will be auctioned off, to give snowboard fans across the country the opportunity to access these works of art.

The boot art initiative is a partnership between Canada Olympic Park, Canada~Snowboard and Light and Soul Creations. The artists who were recruited for the project range in age from 17 to 27 years and come from a variety of backgrounds, some are emerging artists, others trying their hand in the professional scene and some are students.

“A lot of the artists are snowboarders as well,” comments Kai Cabunoc-Boettcher, Painter and Collaborative Director of Light and Soul Creations in Calgary. “There seems to be a natural tie between the cultures of art and snowboarding. All of the artists were excited to be part of this experience, doing their part to shape these culture scenes in Calgary.”

Regardless of their experience the works of art are all unique and impressive. A percentage of the money raised goes toward the artists and another portion towards underprivileged young athletes, with the remaining proceeds benefiting Canada~Snowboard’s Para-Snowboard Team.
