Rain, Wet Snow Hands World Cup Super G Title to Cuche

Lenzerheide, Switzerland – The Audi FIS Alpine World Cup Finals jury made an early decision last Thursday to cancel the final men’s super G of the season, handing the title to Swiss Didier Cuche, who locked the downhill title a day earlier.nOvernight rain battered the lower part of the Silvano Beltrametti slope, while heavy wet snow accumulated at the top resulting in impossible race conditions. Canceled World Cup finals races are not rescheduled.

“For me, losing this race isn’t all that impactful, but I feel bad for the other guys who had a shot at the super G title. As a competitor you never want to be handed a title,” said U.S. Ski Team racer Ted Ligety, of Park City, Utah. “That being said, Didier [Cuche] is one of the best skiers on the World Cup and you saw that yesterday in the downhill. It’s a bummer we didn’t get to see him and the other guys battle it out today.”

Final World Cup Super G Standings
1. Didier Cuche, Switzerland, 291
2. Georg Streitberger, Austria, 227
3. Ivica Kostelic, Croatia, 223
