Missing Marmot Basin Snowboarder Found After 20 Hours

Jasper (AB), Canada – Searchers on Wednesday located a 24-year-old snowboarder who went missing from the slopes of Marmot Basin ski area a day earlier.nNathan Scott, originally from London, Ontario but currently living in the Jasper area, was reported missing by friends after he failed to return from a day of snowboarding at Marmot Basin on Tuesday. He was located damp and cold in the Whistler’s Creek area around 5 p.m. Wednesday by crews using a helicopter.

Rescuers used snowshoes to help Scott evacuate the area. He was taken to an area hospital and held briefly for observation.

Ski area officials indicate that large signs and fences at Marmot Basin are already in place to warn of the dangers of venturing out of bounds. They further stated that they will not seek reimbursement from Scott for the cost of his rescue, but it is not yet known if Parks Canada will attempt to recover its rescue costs.
