Norden, CA – On Tuesday morning, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the Sugar Bowl Ski Patrol, working in conjunction with the Placer County Sheriff’s office and Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, located the body of a skier who had been reported missing by his wife after not returning home from a day of skiing at Sugar Bowl Resort near Lake Tahoe on Monday.nJon Hoffman, 58, was found below Crow’s Nest Peak in the Strawberry Fields area. The terrain is designated as double black diamond or “experts only” terrain. The cause of death is currently under investigation by Placer County Sheriff’s Office detectives and coroner as there were no obvious signs of trauma to Hoffman’s body. Hoffman resided in Oakland, Calif.
After Hoffman’s wife filed the missing persons report at 10:30 p.m. Monday evening, his vehicle was located in the ski area’s parking lot. The search and rescue operation was launched immediately and continued overnight into Tuesday morning.
“Sugar Bowl would like to extend its deepest condolences to Mr. Hoffman’s family,” resort officials said this week in a prepared statement. “It would also like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of the Placer Country Sheriff’s Office and Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue for their assistance in conducting the search.”
