Arosa, Switzerland – Steamboat Springs, Colo.’s Tyler Jewell finished 14th in a parallel giant slalom World Cup snowboard race in Arosa on Sunday, the final event of the 2011 FIS Snowboard World Cup circuit. Austria’s Andreas Prommegger and Switzerland’s Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli topped the men’s and women’s podium.nJewell was one of six Americans to compete in the season closing World Cup. Fronting the U.S., Jewell, the only American to qualify for finals, drew Switzerland’s Simon Schoch in the round of 16. Schoch claimed the victory advancing to the quarterfinals to face Prommegger, ending Jewell’s podium run.
The men’s race was topped by alpine snowboarding standout Prommegger. Italy’s Roland Fischnaller and Switzerland’s Nevin Galmarini finished second and third.
In the women’s race Maegert-Kohli clinched the victory with Ekaterina Tudegesheva of Russia in second and Julia Dujmovits of Austria in third. Lindsay Lloyd, of Centerville, Utah, was the top American woman in 22nd.
Caroline Calvé of Montreal, Quebec, the only Canadian to advance to the elimination rounds, defeated Doris Guenther of Austria to advance to the quarter finals, where she would concede the victory to the eventual winner, Maegert-Kohli. She finished her season in eighth place.
