Marren Wins Halfpipe at Roxy Chicken Jam

Mammoth Mountain, CA – The Seventh Annual Roxy Chicken Jam is America’s only all-women’s professional snowboard competition, bringing many of the world’s best female athletes to Mammoth Mountain ski area in California. Kelly Marren, from Hillsborough, Calif., took the top spot in the halfpipe competition on Friday, winning the $15,000 prize purse.nMarren threw flips on both walls – a frontside crippler and a Michaelchuck on the backside wall – for the win. The event belonged to the newcomers as Leslie Glenn from Breckenridge, Colo., and Chloe Kim from La Palma, Calif., came in second and third, respectively. Kim, a 10-year-old phenom, made her debut at Chicken Jam with a McTwist and frontside and backside 5’s.

Record snowfall resulted in the cancellation of the slopestyle event but that failed to put a damper on the competition. Creative minds at Roxy put together a brand new competition format that would allow the riders to showcase the epic riding condition all over the mountain at Mammoth. The Roxy Powder Jam sponsored by GoPro cameras took advantage of the 600-plus inches of snowfall so far this season by tasking riders to capture the true joy of snowboarding through their eyes.

“This year Mother Nature gave us lemons but we made lemonade out of it,” said Amber Stackhouse, Roxy Snow Team Manager. “With so many talented athletes in town for the Roxy Chicken Jam, we wanted to make it fun and still continue to push the progression of the sport.”

Teams consisted of three riders divided into invited pros and qualifying amateurs demonstrating their creativity and all-around ability to shred the entire mountain while progressing the sport. A total prize purse of $15,000 will be distributed among the winning individuals and winning teams. Winners and entry highlights will be released on April 8 at www.roxy.com.
