Alta, WY – Thanks to nearly 500 inches of snow so far this winter, Wyoming’s Grand Targhee Resort has announced it will extend its ski and snowboard season through Sunday, April 17, a full week later than originally planned.nWith an annual average of 96 inches arriving at Grand Targhee Resort in March and April, the spring typically brings some of the best conditions to the resort, including blower powder days and balmy afternoons in the sun.
Targhee’s Dreamcatcher Chairlift will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, April 11 through Sunday April 17, and the Shoshone Chairlift from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17. Lift tickets during the extended week will cost $39 for riders 13 and over and $19 for ages 6 to 12. Season Passes, Daylight Savings Passes and Four-Pack tickets are valid through April 17.
Slopeside lodging will be closed, with the nearest lodging available in Driggs, Idaho, eight miles from the resort through Grand Targhee Property Management. The resort’s Activity Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Wild Bill’s Grill will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, and the Trap Bar will serve limited appetizers from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. The Plaza BBQ Grill will open from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, but will move to Wild Bill’s Grill if weather conditions require. The General Store will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
The weekends leading up to Targhee’s bonus week include special events as well. Get out your neon and style up your mullet because Targhee’s, like, totally turning back the clock this Saturday and Sunday for the Totally 80’s Weekend. A Friday/Saturday lift ticket will cost $80, $80 rooms are available and a 1989 priced lift ticket will be offered this Sunday for just $22.50.
The weekend kicks off Friday night with the Employee 80’s Airband competition in the Trap Bar, followed by an 80’s DJ dance party and 80’s rockstar costume contest. On Saturday, the DJ will be spinning 80’s hits on the plaza, a best of the 80’s costume contest (judged on a catwalk on the main plaza) and a Sick 80’s Air contest. Keep the party rolling with This Must Be The Band, a Talking Heads cover band, at the Trap Bar on Saturday night.
The following Sunday, April 10 will be headlined by the resort’s Annual Targhee Cardboard Box Derby. All levels of cardboard craft will swoosh down an easily-accessed spectator course. Entries are limited to cardboard, paper, glue, tape, and string, and are always creative and entertaining.
