Mt. Crested Butte, CO – Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) in June will debut a new on-mountain adventure for summer and winter thrill seekers: a Canopy Zip Line tour. The guided tour at the Colorado ski and snowboard resort will include five zip lines and a series of features, such as an “Indiana Jones Bridge,” a net climb and a spiral staircase.nThe Canopy Zip Line tour at CBMR will be available during the summer and winter seasons. The resort will offer the only guided zip line tour at a Colorado ski resort, and one of the only winter canopy tour operations in the state.

“We’ve been looking forward to this announcement for some time,” said Nick Herrin, CBMR’s director of resort services. “We hope the new Canopy Zip Line tour provides guests with yet another reason to explore the mountain – summer or winter.”

Phoenix Experiential Designs, of Sugar Grove, N.C., will begin installation of CBMR’s Canopy Zip Line features in May. The design includes five zip lines ranging in length from 200 feet to 380 feet long. Platforms are approximately 10 feet by 10 feet, accommodating 10 participants at one time.

The guided canopy tour, including the five zip lines and several unique features, or “events,” is an approximately one-and-one-half to two-hour-long experience. Participants will maintain control of their speed while riding the zip lines and an auto-braking system will bring them to a stop on the ramp at each platform. Two guides will accompany each group throughout their tour.

The experience will begin at the Practice Area. Here, guides will help participants learn to use the equipment while explaining commands and procedures for safe navigation of the Canopy Zip Line tour.

From the Practice Area, participants will enter the first platform at the “Indiana Jones Bridge,” consisting of wooden planks on suspended cables. The bridge will lead to the next platform and zip line.

The second event on the tour will be the “Burma Bridge,” a three-line bridge with a cable for the foot line and nylon rope for hand lines on either side. After successfully navigating the bridge, participants will reach another platform and zip line.

The third event, the “Spiral Staircase,” will allow participants to descend to a lower platform for the next zip line ride.

The “Net Climb” will be up next, featuring a 40-foot-long nylon net that participants must climb to reach the next platform and zip line.

The final tower will feature an auto belay device that participants will clip into, allowing them to jump from the platform. The auto belay will slowly lower guests to the ground where they can return to the base area.

Throughout the tour, participants can enjoy the mountain scenery, including breathtaking views of surrounding mountain ranges, and local flora and fauna.

“We experienced great success with the creation of the Adventure Park two years ago, and the addition of the mini golf course last summer,” added Herrin. “We really wanted to find another activity that fit our brand of adventure while rounding out the vacation experience for our guests.”

CBMR’s guided Canopy Zip Line tour will be located in the Peachtree area of the mountain, near the base area.

The resort’s Adventure Park and the new Canopy Zip Line tour will open for the summer season on June 18. Attractions, including the Canopy Zip line tour, mini golf, bungee trampolines and climbing tower, will be open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. throughout the summer. The Adventure Park will close for the summer season on Sept. 5, 2011, but the resort will continue to offer Canopy Zip Line tours on weekends through the fall for leaf-peeping opportunities. Pricing will be released soon, officials indicate.
