Valmalenco, Italy – Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Cassie Wagar led the USA’s charge last Wednesday, finishing 18th in the FIS Junior World Snowboard Championships parallel giant slalom event held in Valmalenco. Slovenia’s Tim Mastnak and Switzerland’s Julie Zogg were crowned PGS Junior World champions.nWagar showed strength in the PGS qualification rounds. However, her day was cut short by a mere 14-hundredths, finishing just outside the top 16 in 18th. Zogg proved dominance throughout the heats taking names as she raced her way to the finals clinching the Junior Worlds champion title buy nearly a second. Zogg was joined by teammate Stefanie Mueller who took silver and Germany’s Cheyenne Loch who landed bronze.
In the men’s race, Mastnak took charge beating Austria’s Luka Mathies for the gold medal. Italy’s Edwin Coratti rounded out the podium securing bronze. Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Christian Allen fronted the U.S. men’s efforts finishing in 21st.
