Park City, UT – American ski racing star, World Champion Lindsey Vonn, and her German rival Maria Riesch always let the rivalry stay on the course and allowed a friendship to blossom between them. After Riesch held off an advancing Vonn to claim the overall World Cup title this winter, however, their relationship has turned as icy as a World Cup downhill course.nAccording to wire service reports, Vonn confirmed over the weekend that the two, who previously spent holidays together, haven’t spoken to each other since March.
Vonn, however, denies that Riesch clinching the World Cup crown was the motivation behind the deterioration of their friendship.
“I stopped talking to Maria after the first leg of the slalom at Spindleruv (in March),” Vonn was quoted as having written on her Facebook page. “She had given a series of negative interviews about me and has since continued to talk in a negative fashion about me. I was very hurt … and honestly I don’t quite know where our friendship is right now.”
Vonn added that neither she nor her husband Thomas felt comfortable amongst members of the Riesch camp at the final World Cup events of the season, detecting a sense of hostility.
