Aspen, CO – Aspenite Nick DeVore, winner of the 2008 Telemark Freeskiing World Championship and ski film star, broke his femur in an avalanche that left him partially buried in the backcountry near Aspen last Friday.nDeVore was skiing with friends in the M&M Chutes last Friday when the 600-foot wet slide broke loose from a cornice, propelling him into a large boulder and breaking his leg. DeVore was able to clear snow from his face until he was extricated from the slide debris.
Crews from Mountain Rescue Aspen and Flight for Life were involved in DeVore’s rescue. After open reduction, internal fixation surgery at Aspen Valley Hospital, DeVore is resting at home on the road to recovery.
