If approved and built, the project proposed by developer LeisureDome (UK) Ltd. on 12.7 acres at St. Modwen’s Locking Parklands will result in a 210-meter indoor ski slope as well as an indoor climbing center, health club, skateboard and BMX park, simulated sky diving, a surfing wave pool, children’s activity area and daycare. Plans further call for an assortment of retail stores and restaurants to complete the facility.

The proposal, expected to be decided upon later this summer by the North Somerset Council, is anticipated to draw 500,000 visitors annually and create 583 jobs in the region, not including construction jobs associated with the building of the facility. Developers hope to break ground in October and open the snow dome, the first in the southwestern part of England, by spring 2013.
