Red, White and Blues Festival at Okemo July 2

Ludlow, VT – Okemo Mountain Resort will celebrate the Fourth of July with a Red, White and Blues Festival on Saturday, July 2. Admission is free to this all-American concert featuring four musical blues artists: Nobby Reed, Lydia Warren, Chris Kleeman and The Dave Keller Band. Music fills the air over Jackson Gore starting at 11:30 a.m., and ends in plenty of time for Independence Day revelers to make it to the Vermont ski resort town’s fireworks display, sponsored by the Ludlow Merchant’s Assoc., at West Hill Recreation Area.

Nobby Reed will play the blues July 2nd at Okemo Mountain Resort.

The lawn in the courtyard at Okemo’s Jackson Gore Inn will be transformed into an outdoor concert venue for the day. Families are welcome, and all attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets. Okemo’s culinary staff will be serving cold beverages and Cabot cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches and more. Concert-goers can also opt for full-service dining with al fresco seating at Jackson Gore’s Coleman Brook Tavern.

Okemo’s new Adventure Zone will be operating, including the Timber Ripper Mountain Coaster that follows the contours of the mountain on stainless steel tubular rails. Sled-like cars carry two riders but are handled easily by one. Following a 1,600-foot climb, riders descend 375 vertical feet along 3,100 feet of track with enhanced waves, camel backs and banking loops at a speed of up to 25 mph. Visitors can enjoy trampoline bungee jumping or a visit to The Ripper gift shop arcade.

The nine-hole Maples Disc Golf Course is a fun, family-friendly activity within earshot of the concert. Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc and complete each hole in the fewest number of strokes (or, in the case of disc golf, throws). The Maples at Okemo Disc Golf Course offers play  inspired by Vermont’s maple sugaring traditions.
