Ohakune, New Zealand – A day after Mt. Hutt opened on Monday, New Zealand’s second ski resort to start its delayed season will come online on the country’s North Island on Tuesday.

The upper slopes of Turoa ski area on Mount Ruapehu presently have a 46cm base of snow, largely from a 32cm snowfall last weekend. Thanks to mother nature’s white dusting and snowmaking weather Ruapehu Alpine Lifts will be opening Turoa’s Alpine Meadow on Tuesday when the sunkid carpet at Turoa will be open for all snow fanatics to get some first turns in.

There is snow in the forecast at the end of the week and cold temperatures are predicted for good snowmaking weather. As a result, the ski area’s staff is working hard to get more facilities open as conditions allow.

Mount Ruapehu’s other ski area, Whakapapa, is scheduled to open on July 2.
