Park City, UT – Olympic ski jumper Peter Frenette, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., took his third straight U.S. title Saturday at the U.S. Ski Jumping Championships at Utah Olympic Park in Park City. Park City’s own Jessica Jerome took the women’s crown for her eighth career U.S. title.
Frenette, who swept the large and normal hill at U.S. Championships last year and was the youngest Olympian in Vancouver in 2010, beat the field by 11 points. Chris Lamb, of Lake Placid, N.Y. finished second, followed by Bryan Fletcher, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., in third.
“Training has been going great, and it was awesome that I was able to carry it over to today. I’m really happy with my results and how everything played out,” he said following his win.
Jerome beat out the women’s field by jumping almost ten meters further than anyone else in both her round one and round two jumps to claim her eighth career U.S. title. She also took wins at both women’s competitions in the Springer Tournee openers earlier in week at UOP. 2009 World Champion Lindsey Van, who swept both titles last season, finished third behind Sarah Hendrickson. Both women hail from Park City.
“I’ve been skiing really well in training this season. I felt confident going into this U.S. Championships and it just seemed to fall into place,” said Jerome. “We’re a really tight knit group so we continue to push each other to be the best. I just felt really good today.”
Normal hill and nordic combined U.S. Championships will continue at Norge Ski Club at Fox River Grove, Ill. on Oct. 1.
