Cherry Valley, NY – It’s been a rough 2011 for Cockaigne ski area and the year’s barely only half over. As if the February burning of the western New York State ski resort’s base lodge and July chairlift vandalism weren’t already enough, the ski area is now also the victim of a burglary.

Thieves made off with tools and equipment from the resort during the break-in that occurred sometime between July 29 and August 1, including oxyacetylene welding equipment, socket sets and chainsaws used to perform maintenance. An ATV was also taken.

The incident comes as Cockaigne staffers are still trying to repair the damage caused by the lift vandalism to open in time for the 2011-12 ski and snowboard season.

Two local teens have been arrested in connection with the vandalism, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this latest occurrence.
