Another Coronet Peak Rider Lost and Found

Queenstown, New Zealand – A 30-year-old snowboarder was rescued Tuesday night after becoming lost on Coronet Peak, the second visitor to do so in a week at the New Zealand resort.

The unidentified Queenstown man was reported missing by friends after he failed to rendezvous at the base of Coronet Peak’s Greengates area around 3 p.m. Night-vision goggles allowed rescuers to spot the man from a helicopter around 11 p.m. outside of the ski area boundary, in the Dirty Four Creek basin heading toward Skippers Canyon.

While visibility in the area was reduced by fog at the time the man went missing, the historic snowstorm that has been affecting New Zealand had cleared from the area by the time the man was found. He was reportedly chilled but otherwise unharmed by the ordeal.
