Park City, UT – The Historic Park City Alliance (HPCA) has released a 22-page report outlining prospective ideas and plans to improve the overall visitor growth and health of Main Street and the surrounding area in this Utah ski resort town. The document was prepared by IBI Group, a local agency that develops holistic strategies for urban design, specifically for the HPCA and the Park City Municipal Corporation. The Infrastructure Plan addresses both short term and long term projects that improve upon existing public spaces, focused on three categories: infrastructure (utilities), uses and attractions (activities/plazas) and pedestrian enhancements (streetscapes).
The HPCA Infrastructure Plan examines numerous ideas that have been suggested by the public and members of the HPCA that would ultimately contribute to the vitality of Park City’s historic district. The HPCA is considering infrastructure ideas that include fundamental recommendations, like sidewalk accessibility and signage, while other ideas focus on aesthetics, like community spaces and attractions.
“It’s always been our top priority to bring business and visitors to Historic Park City, but the direction of commerce and tourism is constantly evolving,” said HPCA Executive Director Alison Butz. “Our goal with this Infrastructure Plan is to address these facts and develop ways that Historic Park City remains a vital destination for everyone to visit.”
The HPCA Infrastructure Plan is a result of six months of study, including HPCA Infrastructure Committee meetings, HPCA Board Meetings, an HPCA Membership meeting, public open houses and meetings with Municipal staff members. As it moves forward in implementing the Infrastructure Plan, the HCPA will develop a phasing strategy for the improvements based on available funding. HPCA membership surveys and public open house comments will also be considered in moving forward with the Infrastructure Plan.
