The new owners — Brian, Bruce and Christopher Monette — already own a number of area businesses including Adirondack Energy, Adirondack Propane, Adirondack Waste, a number of gas station convenience stores in the area and Mo’s Pub and Grill in Malone, where they’re also partners in the Holiday Inn Express. They grew up skiing at Titus Mountain, which was sold by the estate of its late owner, Paul Augustine, who in 1980 acquired the 800-acre ski area opened in 1960 as Moon Valley.

Augustine died on January 1, 2011, and his family still operates Afton Alps and Mount Kato ski areas in Minnesota. While the purchase price was not disclosed, it had been listed for two years with an asking price of $2 million.

The Monette brothers indicate that the ski area will operate unchanged for winter 2011-12, including retaining existing management and a family focus, but that they may improve the base lodge and add off-season activities in coming years.
