America’s Female Ski Jumpers Honored for Their Courage

Park City, UT – The U.S. Women’s Ski Jumping Team will receive the Wilma Rudolph Courage Award from the Women’s Sports Foundation, for their accomplishments and being allowed to compete in the Olympic Winter Games. After years of the team’s perseverance, in April the International Olympic Committee added a women’s ski jumping event (normal hill) to the Olympic Winter Games program beginning in Sochi, Russia in 2014.

The Wilma Rudolph Courage Award is presented to a female athlete or team who exhibits extraordinary courage in their athletic performance, demonstrates the ability to overcome adversity, makes significant contributions to sports and serves as an inspiration and role model to those who face challenges, overcomes them and strives for success at all levels. This award was first given in 1996 to track and field star Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

The award will be granted to the U.S. Women’s Ski Jumping Team at the Women’s Sports Foundation’s 32nd Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards this Wednesday at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
