Woodbury, CT – Although northeastern skiers and snowboarders will be traveling to Vermont and Maine to revel in the winter season debut this weekend, some just might be staying a bit closer to home. As a powerful October snowstorm bears down on the region today, promising to leave up to a foot of snow in its wake, officials at Woodbury Ski Area in southwestern Connecticut say that they will fire up a lift on Saturday as well for skiing and snow tubing.
Woodbury Ski Area plans to open for the 2011 – 12 season at 9:30 a.m. Saturday to beat Killington and Sunday River by 30 minutes to claim first in the East. Woodbury typically first opens with a small slope serviced by a rope tow and a few terrain features. Lifts are scheduled to spin until 9 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
Although snow guns were lining Woodbury’s slopes on Friday afternoon, no sign of snowmaking operations had yet taken place.
No information regarding open terrain or lift ticket prices is yet available.
