Killington, VT – Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, the largest year-round disabled sports non-profit organization in Vermont, recently announced that Tom Alcorn, of Rutland, Vt., is the 2011 recipient of the organization’s annual Jim Hutchinson Volunteer of the Year Award.

“Tom went above and beyond this year, not only volunteering, but taking on the responsibilities as an intern for our Pico and southern programs as well,” said Executive Director Erin Fernandez. He offered tremendous help getting our Pico offices and program space cleaned out in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene. In years past there have been multiple recipients of this award, but this year tom truly stood apart with his level of help and willingness to learn and execute many aspects of our programs and organization.”

Alcorn spends his days teaching skiing at Pico Mountain in developmental disability, sit-down and emotional/behavioral lessons. In the summer he volunteers his time assisting with summer sports including kayaking, sailing, cycling, and paddling.

The Jim Hutchinson Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award honors the exemplary efforts outstanding individuals. Jim Hutchinson embodied the meaning of volunteer with his tireless dedication, strong leadership and big heart. Each year individuals are nominated for the annual volunteer of the year award in his honor and names are added to a memorial plaque hanging at each program location.
