Skier Collides with Tree and Dies at Sugarloaf

Carrabassett Valley, ME – A 41-year-old Canadian man died on Thursday after colliding with a tree while skiing at Sugarloaf Resort in Carrabassett Valley.

Davis Morse, 41, of Kingston, Nova Scotia, was visiting Sugarloaf with his wife and two children when the incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on the Lower Timberline trail, designated with a green circle as easy terrain. He was pronounced dead around 5 p.m. while being transported by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

A Sugarloaf spokesperson indicates that Morse was wearing a helmet a the time of the incident. The Maine State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
