Wilmington, NY – A 25-year-old Long Island man died on Friday after losing control and striking trees while skiing with family at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington.

According to police, Daniel M. McGovern of  Carle Place, N.Y., was pronounced dead at the scene after being located at 10:30 a.m. some 30 feet from the edge of the Excelsior trail. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted at the Adirondack Medical Center in  Saranac Lake, N.Y.
