Hinzenbach, Austria –Park City, Utah’s Sarah Hendrickson saw her opportunity to extend a three-comp win streak snapped as wind forced a cancellation of the second round of a FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in Hinzenbach on Saturday.
Hendrickson finished second based on first-round results by a mere seven-tenths despite a hill record jump of 96.0 meters by winner Daniela Iraschko of Austria. Hendrickson, whose result was earned largely on style points, retained her overall World Cup lead by 509 to 373 points over Irashko as the season reached its midway mark.
Officials waited for over an hour as winds were swirling in the second round before canceling and reverting to only first round scores.
“My coach told me that there was actually too much wind. I guess the jury knows what they do and the cancellation of the final round was the right decision,” said Hendrickson. “Second place is very important in view of the overall and I’m happy with the result.”
World Champion Lindsey Van and teammate Abby Hughes, both also of Park City, were seventh and 12th on the day, respectively.
