Pincher Creek (AB), Canada – A snowboarder in his 30s died following an incident at Castle Mountain on Saturday afternoon after sustaining a high-speed collision with a tree stump.
The unidentified man, from Calgary, Alberta, was said to be riding with his fiancée at a high rate of speed on Buffalo Flats, a run rated “easiest” with a green circle, when he swerved to avoid others on the run. He tumbled into a ravine and collided with a tree stump. According to a press release issued by the resort, the victim was wearing a helmet and a chest protector at the time of the incident.
Patrollers and EMS staff performed CPR on the victim without success. The RCMP is investigating the incident. The victim’s name is being withheld at the request of his family.
The last skier death at Castle Mountain occurred five years ago.
