Huntsville, UT – Vermont’s Devin Logan won women’s halfpipe on the Dew Tour at Snowbasin Resort in Utah on Saturday while claiming the Dew Tour Cup. She was also named the tour’s Paul Mitchell Breakout Athlete of the Year for her consistent podiums throughout the Dew Tour.
Saturday was a strong day for Logan, who also led slopestyle semifinals held earlier in the day.
“I knew I was in contention for the Dew Cup and just had to come out and put down the best run I could,” said Logan. “I had slope this morning, so I was a bit tired, but I got some energy, found some deep down and ended up doing it, so I’m thrilled.”
Newly named to the U.S. Freeskiing Team, Maddie Bowman, of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., was third, continuing her consistent podium showings that earned her second place in the women’s freeski halfpipe Dew Cup. Rosalind Groenewoud of Canada finished second on Saturday to finish third in the Dew Cup standings.
“In my first run I messed up my straight air, which is something I don’t think I’ve ever done before. And, in my second run I was doing a new trick – a left-side cork 540 – and I had a little hand touch on my landing,” said Groenewoud, who was the only Canadian to make Saturday’s finals. “Even with my mistakes today, I feel like I’m skiing really well and I’m happy with my new trick. I’m thinking about some other new tricks I’ll be working on over the next couple of weeks.”
Halfpipe skiing athletes will now head to Mammoth Mountain, Calif., for the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix taking place February 29 – March 3.
