Backcountry 101 at Brighton

Brighton, UT – Brighton Ski Resort has some of the easiest sidecountry access in Utah, so it seems only fitting that the resort will host Brighton Backcountry 101, an avalanche awareness and backcountry skills course this Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 22-23.

Presented by Brighton Patrol and the Utah Avalanche Center, this two-part, eight-hour course focuses on decision making, using avalanche forecasts, route selection and safe travel practices, the red flags of avalanche danger, and partner rescue techniques. It’s held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, and resumes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The course is being offered at a cost of $40, and participants must have their own shovel, avalanche beacon, probe, Brighton lift pass, and at least advanced intermediate riding or skiing skills.
