Newry, ME – Sunday River Ski Resort and the American Lung Association of Maine will team up on Feb. 25 to host a progressive picnic on skis and snowshoes, also known as the 25th annual Joy of Skiing at the Sunday River Outdoor Center.
Home to 30 kilometers of Nordic skiing and snowshoe trails, the Sunday River Outdoor Center provides a perfect location for a day of outdoor recreation and sampling homemade fare.
From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., outdoor enthusiasts are invited to work up an appetite and explore the Outdoor Center’s many trails. Along the way, guests will be treated to a number of on-trail food stations. Culinary stops rotate on an hourly basis and will include such past favorites as homemade donuts, hot soup, and a s’mores sweet ending.
The cost to participate in the Joy of Skiing is $6 in advance or a $7 on the day of the event, in addition to a trail pass. Kids ages 6 through 12 and seniors 65 and older cost $4, and kids 5 and under and adults 80 years and older are free. Cross country ski and snowshoe rentals are also available.
Proceeds will benefit the American Lung Association of Maine, a nonprofit organization.
