Feuz, Kroell Tie for Super G Win

Kvitfjell, Norway – The Audi FIS Alpine World Cup tour produced a rare double win on Friday as Austrian Klaus Kroell tied Beat Feuz of Switzerland for a super G win in Kvitfjell. Norwegian ski racer Kjetil Jansrud completed the podium at home in third.

High winds delayed the start of the race for an hour. Friday’s competition was a rescheduled event for a race canceled in January in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

The victory pushed Feuz past Austrian Marcel Hirscher, who did not compete, for the overall tour lead by five points. Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal was fifth to retain his lead in the super G standings, while Lake Placid, N.Y.’s Andrew Weibrecht posted the top U.S. result with 28th.

Ted Ligety, of Park City, Utah, opted to skip the weekend’s races in Kvitfjell in favor of giant slalom and slalom training. Fellow American Bode Miller is out for the remainder of the season following a pair of knee surgeries last month.

Canada’s Erik Guay was ninth and Jan Hudec finished 13th. Trying to keep alive a Canadian podium streak that has stretched through the last four men’s World Cup speed events, the duo laid down solid runs on a day when the top 10 racers were separated by a mere six-tenths of a second.

“It’s a tough course. The snow changed completely from yesterday,” said Guay, of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, who won the super G Crystal Globe in 2010 and has had three World Cup podiums in Kvitfjell. “You needed to stick your nose out and take some chances. I just had a bit of an off day, mentally. I didn’t feel that confident. I didn’t take (enough) chances.”
