Guldemond Takes Mammoth Win

Mammoth Lakes, CA – After three days of wind and snow, Reno, Nev.’s Chas Guldemond on Friday earned his second slopestyle win in a row, this time at the Paul Mitchell Progression Session, part of the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix at Mammoth that also served as a Nor-Am Cup event.

Teammate Sage Kotsenburg, of Park City, Utah, finished second on Friday when conditions were sunny and beautiful, raising spirits, bringing smiles and getting the sunblock flowing. American Mark Hoyt finished third, followed by Bend, Ore.’s Ben Ferguson in fourth.

Guldemond scored a 94.5 and went huge on a backside double 1260 to earn a second consecutive victory following the Ticket To Ride World Championship Feb. 19 in Oslo, Norway. This time his wife and dogs were on hand to cheer him on during the competition.

“Sage definitely put some pressure on me on that last run, but I knew I just needed to clean things up a bit and just enjoy it. Take it in and it worked out,” Guldemond said. “I was having a great time and just wanted to give props to my boys for having  great runs, you know fill my mind with that, and it worked for me.”

Ludlow, Vt.’s Benji Farrow took the men’s Maloof Best Trick with a switch double backside rodeo backside grab.

Joanna Dzierzawski, of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., took the win for the women with a run that included switching up her rotations with a backside 360 and frontside 360. Indigo Monk, of Manhattan Beach, Calif., took second in the women’s competition at 17 years old and won the Maloof Best Trick with with a frontside 540 stale. Milford, Mich.’s Karly Shorr was third.

“It was a long day but really fun,” said a tired Dzierzawski. “The weather cleared up and it was absolutely and I don’t think I could be any more excited!”
