Norden, CA – Skiing legend and Truckee, Calif. local Daron Rahlves remains the reigning Banzai champion following another win at the Rahlves’ Banzai Tour Super Finals held on Sunday at Sugar Bowl Resort.
The Super Final followed the Silver Belt Banzai, a unique event with roots dating back to 1940, when the Silver Belt Race was considered one of the top ski races in the country. After a hiatus from the late 70’s to the early 2000’s, Rahlves revived the race in 2009 with a new twist, combining downhill racing with big mountain freeriding and ski and boarder-cross action. This year’s tour saw four stops at various resorts around Lake Tahoe.
“I’d like to thank all the competitors, sponsors and host resorts for a wild, fun and successful four-stop tour,” said Rahlves. “Silver Belt Banzai Men’s ski winner Riva filled the last spot in the Super Final and gave me a good run for the $10,000!”
A festive finish line vendor village and BBQ provided the winning scene for the awards ceremony. The top Silver Belt skiers each received the coveted Silver Belt Buckle, with the Snowboard winners taking home custom skateboards in addition to cash prizes. Overall Tour Winners received custom forged Banzai trophies along with their cash earnings.
