The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as James Malcarne. When he did not meet his friends at the bottom of a run officials initiated a search, which located Malcarne around 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the base of a tree. CPR efforts performed by ski patrol and emergency medical services personnel were unsuccessful.

Malcarne, who was described by friends as an experienced skier, reportedly sustained head injuries in the collision. Accounts differ as to whether or not he was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, which is the second death reported at Skibowl this winter. In January a 17-year-old Sandy, Ore. girl died while snowboarding at the resort.
