Wrightwood, CA – Ski resorts around North America are making final preparations for events to mark the Easter holiday weekend, which at many areas marks the last big hurrah of the winter ski and snowboard season.
Southern California’s Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt this Sundaywith more than $5,000 in prizes including two 201213 season passes to the area. There are actually two hunts in all at Mountain High. The first begins at 8:30 a.m. for adults and takes place throughout the West Resort. The guest who finds the golden egg wins an Adult Anytime Season Pass valued at $699. Other prizes include 8-Hour lift tickets, Night Tickets, food and retail discounts, and, of course, plenty of Easter candy.
Mountain High’s Children’s Easter Egg Hunt begins at 10 a.m. at the resort’s Children’s Academy, which is located just above the base area. The finder of this golden egg wins a 2012-13 Children’s Season Pass valued at $229.
Both hunts are free and open to anyone with a season pass or lift ticket, the rates for which have now been discounted to $45 for adults, $25 for children 7-12 and free with a paying adult for kids 6 and under.
Further north in California near Lake Tahoe, the Easter Bunny will be visiting Northstar to have his photo taken with guests both on the mountain and cruising around the skating rink, using the resort’s EpicMix app. Sunday will bring Northstar’s annual end of the season celebrations with a Pond Skim kicking things off at mid-mountain at 11:30 a.m., followed by face painting, live music, food and drink specials and more in the Village. Guests are also encouraged to put on their best 80’s-style ski gear and get ready to show off their back scratchers and spread eagles at Northstar’s Retro Dress Day.
At nearby Squaw Valley, guests can prepare for Sunday’s Easter Egg Hunt with New Belgium’s Scavenger Hunt beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. This is a day to don your best costume, chase chickens, search for bigfoot and answer some ridiculous riddles, all while skiing and raising money for the Shane McConkey Foundation. Registration costs $10 per person with teams up to four people. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the KT Base Bar. Extra points are awarded for costumes! Saturday is also U.S. Ski Team Day at Squaw. Join Julia Mancuso, Jonny Moseley, Tamara McKinney, Travis Ganong and other Squaw Valley skiers and snowboarders for a day supporting the athletes of the U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Snowboarding Team and U.S. Freeskiing Team. To cap off the day, party goers can enjoy the sounds of San Francisco jam band Tea Leaf Green, performing at the KT Base Bar from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., or free live après ski music in The Village Events Plaza with Ben Martin.
Squaw’s annual on-mountain Easter egg hunt begins the moment the lifts open on Easter Sunday. Get your Easter basket ready and hunt for colored eggs all over the mountain. This year, one lucky winner will find a golden egg, containing a 2012-13 Adult Bronze season pass. Clues will be provided throughout the day via twitter, the Squaw Valley smartphone app and Facebook. The Easter Bunny will be in the village next to Rocker@Squaw from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. for photos in the Big Chair with KT-22 in the background, and a non-denominational mountaintop Easter service with Tahoe Resort Ministries will be held at the top of the Links chairlift at 2 p.m.
Festivities at Utah’s Park City Mountain Resort will kick off at 8:45 a.m. Sunday morning in the Resort Plaza with free hot chocolate and pastries for resort guests. At 9 a.m. sharp, the Easter Bunny greets children 6 and under for their own egg hunt in the Kids’ Korral while lifts begin turning for the All-Mountain Hunt for everyone else. Guests participating in the All-Mountain Hunt will find hundreds of prize-filled eggs across the resort, with two very special Golden Eggs each holding a 2012-13 Park City Mountain Resort Season Pass. Hints to one of the Golden Eggs’ location will be revealed on Park City Mountain Resort’s Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages once a day from now through the morning of the hunt. Guests will also find the Easter Bunny getting in some ski runs of his own throughout the day.
In Colorado, Breckenridge Ski Resort’s annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday will feature 10,000 plastic eggs hidden across the resort’s Peaks 8 and 9 for guests of all ages. All will contain treats, and some special eggs will contain unspecified grand prizes. Easter Sunday also includes a sunrise service and multiple brunch options, but guests who make a weekend of it will find the Rockstar Throwback Throwdown taking place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday at Peak 8, where pro snowboard athletes will take on the Freeway Super Pipe as well as a six-foot mini-pipe that’s an exact replica of the first ever halfpipe built at Breck in 1985. Boarders expected to attend include Zack Black, Brett Esser, Jake Black, Steve Fisher, Mike Campbell, Silvia Mittermuller, Leslie Glenn, Rebecca Torr, Luke Mitrani, Danny Davis and Chad Otterstrom.
The Easter Bunny is inviting skiers and riders to a hoppin’ good time in the village at Sun Valley in Idaho tomorrow. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, village shops and Sun Valley Resort will host an “eggstravaganza” Easter egg hunt for children 10 years and younger. Face painting at the Sun Valley Toy Store, music and surprise store discounts to add to the holiday celebration.
The pickings for ski resorts still open in the East may be getting slim, but things are still going on 21 open trails and four lifts at Saddleback Maine, where the Reverend Peter Panagore will host an Easter Morning Service at 9:30 a.m. at the top of the ski resort’s Rangeley chairlift. Music will be provided by Joe Montimurro. At 11:30 a.m. the Easter Bunny will lead an Easter Egg Hunt on the South Branch trails. Plus, somewhere on the mountain the Easter Bunny has hidden the Golden Egg with a Saddleback Season Pass for 2012-13.
On Easter Sunday Saddleback will be serving Easter Dinner in the Swig N’ Smelt Pub from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The price is $15 per person and will include baked ham with a rum raisin sauce, fresh baked rolls, tossed garden salad, roasted red potatoes and green beans. North of the border, spring skiing still continues at Mont-Sainte-Anne in Quebec, where the second weekend of the resort’s Spring Madness Festival gets underway this Saturday and Sunday. The Easter Bunny will be hitting Mont-Sainte-Anne’s slopes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day with chocolate treats for all, and live music will grace the resort’s patio each afternoon.
