Temperatures in the region soared last week to unseasonable levels, increasing the likelihood of wet avalanches. The body of the man, who has not been identified by authorities, was recovered by avalanche rescue dogs after being buried for an extended period of time. He was not wearing an avalanche beacon.

The victim’s 79-year-old companion was also partially buried but was able to extricate himself.
