British Airways Adds Ski Flights

London, UK – British Airways announced on Friday that the airline is increasing flights to two of its popular European ski destinations from Gatwick next winter.

Beginning December 18, flights to Turin in Italy will increase to 10 a week and flights to Salzburg in Austria will increase to five a week, as both cities are popular destinations for ski holidays. The extra round-trip service to Turin will operate on a Sunday and extra services to Salzburg will operate on Thursday and Saturday. Fares include on-line check in and seat selection up to 24 hours before departure, a 23 kg checked-in luggage allowance plus a piece of hand luggage and a laptop or handbag, and no debit card fees.

British Airways offer fly-drives to Turin for customers wanting the freedom to discover the region’s lakes and mountains, as well as the popular Via Lattea and its many ski resorts. Tourists can combine a ski vacation with a stay in Turin to see the Piazza Castello square, armory and art museums, royal palaces and churches. The Baroque palaces built by the House of Savoy are also impressive attractions for tourists wanting to learn more about Northern Italy’s rich history and culture. Additionally, after working up an appetite from a day of skiing, Turin has many fine restaurants to sample.

Fly-drive packages are also available in Salzburg, making the surrounding, picturesque Alpine countryside more accessible. The Alps boast a number of world-class resorts that are easily reached with a car rental from Salzburg. The region is world famous as the setting for the classic musical “The Sound of Music”, with Anif Palace, Lake Wolfgang and St. Gilgen easily accessible by car. In addition to skiing nearby, visitors to Salzburg often enjoy touring the filming spots of this award-winning musical, either on their own or through organized tours. Additionally, the Werfen Ice Caves are a dazzling natural spectacle only 36 km from Salzburg. The largest ice caves in the world can be accessed by a cable car that leads up to the mountain entrance, 40 km high.

“These routes are already very popular with winter travelers and skiers in particular, so we have taken the opportunity to boost our winter schedule with the extra flights,” says Sophie McKinstrie of British Airways Gatwick.
