Salt Lake City, UT – Following the success of last year’s competition, athletes anxiously hoping for another incredible Utah ski and snowboard season will have the opportunity to race to winter in the Second Annual Skootch’n Dash, scheduled for Saturday, August 25 at the Downtown Farmers Market in Salt Lake City. Participants can either choose to compete in a ski boot course run (approximately 1k) or the 50-meter snowboard skootch, a commonly practiced technique used by snowboarders to traverse flat surfaces by hopping with both boots strapped into snowboard bindings.
The participation fee is $10 per person per race. Space is limited, so athletes are encouraged to pre-register at www.active.com/running/salt-lake-city-ut/second-annual-skootchn-dash-2012. The fastest racers in both adult and children’s divisions will win prizes including a Ski Utah Yeti Pass for best costume, Rossignol skis, a Burton snowboard and assorted merchandise from Smith, Dakine and Hot Chillys.
Registration will open on-site at the Farmers Market in Pioneer Park, located at the southwest corner of 300 W Broadway, at 9 a.m. on the 25th, with races starting at 10 a.m. Plastic alpine ski boots only will be allowed for participation in the ski boot run. Specialized backcountry, Nordic, snowboard or other boots will result in immediate disqualification. Local retailer Ski n’ See will supply a limited number of ski boots for competitors unable to provide their own equipment.
