Panorama Celebrates 50 Years

Invermere (BC), Canada – Panorama Mountain Village is celebrating the resort’s 50th anniversary ski season this winter, with the milestone year filled with themed events aimed to engage families, including special tributes that acknowledge the resort’s colorful past.

“We feel it’s important to pay homage to the resort’s founders and the rich ski culture that has made Panorama Mountain Village what it is today – a destination like no other,” says Rick Jensen, President and CEO of Panorama.

For the second year in a row, the mountain has received a major makeover to improve skiers’ enjoyment of the variety of its natural terrain. In follow up to last winter’s successful widening of Stumbock’s Run, the trail crew took on multiple runs this fall, expanding and reclaiming further terrain. This year’s glading efforts took place in Taynton Bowl, Extreme Dream Zone and the popular Sun Bowl.

Nearly a quarter of Taynton Bowl was gladed this summer, opening up C-Spine and other runs including Sidewinder and Surf. The Extreme Dream Zone saw Surf thinned out while the Sun Bowl received new runs cut through the trees on the far skier’s left.

“We can’t wait to lay some fresh tracks down in the newly gladed Taynton Bowl. The runs were already amazing and now we’ll have top to bottom, perfectly spaced trees down a huge selection of runs,” says Chris Elder, Panorama’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “The Sun Bowl is very popular with our guests looking to venture off the groomed runs, but who aren’t quite ready for the steeps of Taynton Bowl. The swaths cut through the low lying evergreens will provide interesting terrain that’s not overly challenging.”

In total, over 280 acres of terrain were gladed for winter 2012-13.

Panorama’s lengthy cruising runs will also benefit from the resort’s purchase of a new Prinoth high tech grooming machine this winter.
