Leavenworth, WA –Seattle Business magazine honored Stevens Pass Mountain Resort as the winner of the Recreation Category, and a member of the exclusive Green 50 list of 50 outstanding sustainable organizations, drawn from across the state of Washington and virtually every sector of the economy.
“For the past four years our company has targeted sustainability, and we are especially pleased to earn this recognition of our cutting-edge efforts,” said Ross Freeman, Environment & Sustainability Manager for Stevens Pass. “We strive to lead the way among Pacific Northwest resorts in reducing our impact and our carbon footprint, and we’re honored to bring home this highly competitive award.”
The range of initiatives at Stevens Pass includes everything from food waste composting to electric vehicle charging stations, wind-powered carbon offsets for guests, pilot solar power projects, recycling resort-wide, energy efficiency retrofits, and employee transit. In the past few years the resort has been recognized by a number of state, national, and industry organizations for its exemplary environmental performance.
“We are always looking for ways to reduce our impact, save money through efficiency, and do the right thing for the mountain environment,” said Freeman. “Stevens Pass is one of the few resorts nationwide with full-time environmental staff.”
Winners were selected from a large pool of nominations by a panel of judges from prominent organizations in the region, including the Washington Environmental Council, Climate Solutions, the Bainbridge Graduate Institute and the Washington Clean Technology Alliance.
“We are pleased to see so many companies introducing innovative technologies, policies and processes that make our economy more environmentally sustainable,” said Leslie Helm, editor of Seattle Business. “Our goal is to encourage those efforts by recognizing the best organizations and holding them up as models for others to follow.”
