Ski Maine Association’s Peak to Peak Challenge Enters Its Fifth Year

Portland, ME – The mission of the Ski Maine Association is to promote Maine ski areas which operate in every corner of the state. The seventeen members of Ski Maine reach from Fort Kent to South Berwick, and from Camden on the coast to the 4,000-foot’ summits of the Western Mountains. Member ski resorts range from world class destinations, to local, community run ski slopes.

The Ski Maine Peak to Peak Challenge is the simple tally of the number of ski areas a person visits over the course of the winter. The format is based on the popular concept that hikers have followed over the years of “bagging peaks”. The Peak to Peak Challenge card can be downloaded from the association at SkiMaine.com and holders then fill in the date that they visit any one of the participating ski areas.  The genesis of the Peak to Peak was a tour of all Maine ski areas in January of 2008 by an intrepid group crisscrossing the state during a four-day marathon.

The 2012-13 ski season marks the fifth anniversary of the Peak to Peak Challenge. The event has introduced many to the hidden gems of Maine skiing and snowboarding and highlights the vibrant local areas. Maine’s community areas continue their valuable role in the industry by introducing thousands families and children to the sport each winter.

The Association offers special lift ticket products complementing the Peak to Peak Challenge. The Ski Maine Mountain Pass includes a pair of lift tickets to all of the participating areas and the Maine Winter Activities Pass offers discounts at all of the areas.

Ski Maine Association also supports the contest with prizes at the end of the season for individuals submitting the Peak to Peak Challenge form. Three levels of the contest are established so that a person does not need to ski all the areas to participate. The first level is for individuals who visit six areas, the second level for visiting 12 areas. These entries qualify to win gift certificates sponsored by Kittery Trading Post. The ultimate honor is for those visiting all 17 sites.  Those entering the highest level qualify for the chance to win an overnight ski and lodging package at the Comfort Inn in Farmington and a lift ticket package containing a day pass to all seventeen areas.
