Rough World Cup Season Opener for U.S. Nordic Combined

Lillehammer, Norway – Olympic medalist Todd Lodwick, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., put on an impressive display on the cross country trails to move up from 40th after the jump to lead the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team in 24th at the season opening FIS World Cup in Lillehammer on Saturday won by Norway’s Magnus Moan.

Taylor Fletcher, also of Steamboat Springs, was 30th but posted the fastest cross country time in the only other shining moment on an otherwise disappointing day for the U.S. Nordic Combined squad. Brother Bryan Fletcher led the USA on the jumps in 20th, but faded in cross country to finish 38th.

“The jumping was OK for Bryan and Todd but we know they are capable of more – no question,” explained Dave Jarrett, the U.S. Ski Team’s Nordic Combined Head Coach. “We’re are all very happy with Todd’s cross country race. It will help him to know he is fit which in turn will help on the hill.

“The good news is Taylor actually jumped pretty well yesterday and today wasn’t his average,” Jarrett added. “Taylor knows he is one of the fastest guys (in cross country) and today he proved it.”
