USSA President Bill Marolt Named to USOC Board

Colorado Springs, CO – U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) President and CEO Bill Marolt was named Thursday to the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) Board of Directors. He will serve a four year term as a representative of the National Governing Bodies Council (NGB).

“Olympism is a very positive and powerful message that brings all of us together to help athletes achieve their Olympic dreams. I’m deeply honored with this opportunity to share my experience as an Olympian and a National Governing Body leader with the U.S. Olympic Committee,” said Marolt.

A 1964 Olympian, Marolt has led the USSA since 1996, while also functioning as vice president of the International Ski Federation (FIS). In his career he has worked at all levels of sport from athlete to coach to program director and National Governing Body leader.

“It is an honor for our organization as well as an opportunity to bring Bill’s extensive experience as an Olympian and sport leader to benefit the Olympic movement,” said Dexter Paine, USSA board chairman. “One of the hallmarks of Bill’s career with the USSA has been the growth of our sphere of influence in both FIS and USOC. That has had a direct impact on our own athletic success, but has also has been instrumental in the development of Olympic sport.”

Prior to leading the NGB, he spent 12 years as athletic director at his alma mater, the University of Colorado. As an athlete, he won three U.S. championships and four NCAA titles, and competed in the 1964 Olympic Winter Games. Later, as a coach, he led Colorado to seven NCAA titles from 1969-78, then went on to serve as director of the U.S. alpine program from 1978-84.

Marolt was selected following a search by the USOC’s Nominating and Governance Committee.

In other action, the USOC Board reaffirmed Chairman Larry Probst for a second four-year term and also named Whitney Ping to the board as an Athletes’ Advisory Council director.
