Park City, UT – A 67-year-old man from New Jersey died on Monday after colliding with a tree at Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR) in Utah.
William Kivet, 67, of Cedar Grove, N.J., was descending Park City’s Silver King trail off the resort’s Crescent Ridge on his first run of the day shortly before noon on Monday with a friend, who witnessed Kivet leave the groomed run near the bottom and collide with a tree. PCMR ski patrol transported the victim to base patrol headquarters, where an air ambulance was summoned, according to a log entry released by Park City Police. Doctors pronounced Kivet dead while at base patrol and released the air ambulance.
News reports indicate that Kivet was an accomplished skier and was not reportedly having any difficulty descending Silver King, which is rated with a black diamond. While the cause of death has not yet been released, the retired teacher from the Newark, N.J. school district was said to be not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
