Lack of Snow Postpones First Stop of Subaru Freeride Series at Crested Butte

Mt. Crested Butte, CO – Salt Lake City, Utah-based Mountain Sports International (MSI) announced on Wednesday that the first stop of the 2013 Subaru Freeride Series (SFS) at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Colo., originally scheduled Feb. 6-10, has been postponed due to unsuitable snow conditions.

MSI and resort officials are working together to determine the rescheduled event date, most likely near the end of March. Crested Butte Mountain Resort is slated to host both a 2-star and 4-star Freeride World Qualifier event.

“Due to conditions we are forced to reschedule the competition at Crested Butte until snowpack improves,” said SFS Event Director Bryan Barlow. “We are looking forward to a snowy February to make the event as successful as possible for athletes and fans.”

Event officials say that they will release the rescheduled date as soon as possible.

“Although we have some snow in the forecast, it is not enough to get our Extreme Terrain open at this time,” says Laci Wright, Events Manager for Crested Butte Mountain Resort. “Our mountain takes a lot of snow to fill in areas for the event venues and by postponing the event, this will allow more time for the snow to fall and be able to pull off the FWQ event with great success.”
