Rogla, Slovenia – Russia’s Ekaterina Tudegesheva, and Roland Fischnaller of Italy won the 2013 FIS Snowboard World Cup season’s second parallel giant slalom in Rogla, Slovenia on Friday.
Under bluebird skies on Friday, the resort south of Maribor celebrated its debut as a World Cup host. The reigning Parallel Slalom world champion Tudegesheva edged out the 2010 PGS Olympic Champion, Nicolien Sauerbreij of The Netherlands, in the women’s finals to take her 11th World Cup win.
“I have a very good form right now and I’m happy that I was able to clinch my season’s first World Cup victory,” Tudegesheva said.
In the battle for third, Claudia Riegler of Austria crossed the finish line ahead of Canada’s Caroline Calve.
On the men’s side Fischnaller, who brought home Bronze and Silver form the last World Championships, celebrated his career’s eighth World Cup victory on the “Jasa” slope by beating Zan Kosir of Slovenia in the final duel. France’s Sylvain Dufour rounded out the podium in third after defeating Ingemar Walder of Austria in the small finals.
“I’m very, very happy especially as it is my fifth podium in six races,” Fischnaller said. “I came here with the will to win. And it’s nice if you achieve your goal.”
With his victory on Friday, Fischnaller also assumed the lead in the Parallel World Cup standings with 3,100 points. Tudegesheva also sits in first of the Parallel World Cup rankings with 1,930 points.
