Henniker, NH – Are you already jonesing for the mountain biking season? Southern New Hampshire’s Pats Peak ski area has Brenter Snowbike rentals available. The Snowbike Introductory Price to Learn to Snowbike is $26 for a two-hour session with lesson and licensing. Lift tickets are required and sold separately.
Snowbiking began in Europe in 1949 when Austrian engineer Engelbert Brenter invented what was then called the “Sit Ski” – a way to enjoy the slopes while sitting on a bike-like invention that used skis instead of tires. Since that time the technology has advanced dramatically, with sophisticated, strong Snowbikes that weigh in at about 20 pounds in a wide variety of new styles including a modern active suspension system.
Riders sit on the Snowbike (one ski in front, one ski in the back, and small skis on each foot) and use steering and body weight to “drive” the Snowbike down the ski slopes. Between the ski in the front and ski in the back, plus the two small foot ski’s riders, experience a surprising degree of “control”.
Every Snowbike rider must take a lesson to receive a Pats Peak Snowbike License. This training is offered as part of the first Snowbike rental at the resort. Once a rider receives this card, they can log on to www.snowbike.info/card.php to apply for a Snowbike card that enables them to rent and/or ride a Snowbike at any participating ski resort in the world without a required mandatory lesson. Pats Peak will also honor another valid Snowbike Card from another U.S. mountain.
“This is our third season with Snowbike rentals available. Since we are more than a ski area, having Snowbikes as another element to the mix of skis, snowboards, twin tips, teleskiing, snowshoeing and snowtubing, we can offer another way for people to celebrate the winter outdoors”, says Kris Blomback, General Manager of Pats Peak.
Introductory Snowbike rental rates after a license is obtained is $26 for two hours, $35 for a half day, and $46 for a full day. The lift ticket price is additional. Riders must have a valid Snowbike license to rent and a major credit card is required. A parent/legal guardian signature is required for minors. Children 13 and under may only use the resort’s carpet lifts. Reservations are encouraged and may be made by calling (603) 428-3245, ext. 211.
