Snowmass, CO – Black skiers and snowboarders from across the nation will converge in Snowmass to attend the National Brotherhood of Skiers, Inc. (NBS) biennial event and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the organization. This event, known as the “Black Ski Summit”, will be held for a week beginning this Saturday and will bring together thousands of African-American winter sports enthusiasts.
“Our organization’s 40th anniversary is momentous and a milestone in our history. We are very excited to return to Snowmass to commemorate and reflect on our achievements over the years,” said Diana Starks, NBS President. “Snowmass is one of the premiere mountains and our members look forward to returning to the resort’s beautiful scenic surroundings and ski terrains fit for all levels of skiing and snowboarding. Snowmass has always been exciting during our past visits and we look forward to seeing how the resort will enhance our celebration.”
The NBS plans a non-stop schedule of events during the Summit. Beyond the skiing, riding and social events, the organization will host leadership meetings. Summit week’s most popular events will include Opening Ceremonies, Picnic-On-The-Hill, Anniversary Gala, Club Races and numerous après ski gatherings.
The Summit, held on odd-numbered years, is a fundraiser of the National Brotherhood of Skiers to support the NBS Olympic Scholarship Fund, designed to provide financial support for exceptional athletes of color who excel in winter sports. Many NBS clubs have youth program that put athletes on track for national competition and development. The intent is to propel these young athletes to Olympic and international competition. In addition, funds from this event support the operation of the National Brotherhood of Skiers, Inc.
NBS Summits are held at selected ski resorts throughout the United States. The Summit’s attendees expected to spend more than $500,000 during the week the event is held in Snowmass.
