Lakeshore, CA – A Fresno, Calif. man died on Saturday after hitting a tree stump at China Peak Mountain Resort in Lakeshore, within Sierra National Forest 70 miles northeast of his hometown.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Richard Sigle, 49. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office indicates that Sigle hit a stump alongside an intermediate run that cracked his ski helmet.
China Peak ski patrollers administered CPR to Sigle, but he died after emergency medical services personnel and deputies arrived at the scene.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Sunday. Sigle was a season pass holder who was allowed to ski beyond the resort’s public 4 p.m. closing time.
